Lisbon is a world cultural center with a wide diversity of art, music, cuisine, and other cultural adventures. We will be staying near the historic neighborhood of Alfama for one night on the way to our retreat, and one more night on the way back. 

Northern Portugal is a land of beautiful scenery and profound historic and cultural wealth. We base our trip in the picturesque countryside at a yoga retreat near Serra de Estrela National Park, home to the highest peak in mainland Portugal - Torre Mountain.

Within a short drive is a thermal village of Geres in the Peneda-Geres National Park. The park is a vast amphitheater-shaped space sculpted by geological forces, wind and water. Lots of open trails leading into 4-5,000 foot high peaks. These trails used to connect ancient villages and were (and still are) used by shepherds. Thermal springs in Geres is a great way to unwind after a long run.

  • Lodging for 2 nights in Lisbon (1st and last nights)
  • Lodging for 4 nights at Yoga Retreat (Vale de Moses)
  • Lodging for 2 nights at Aguas do Geres, thermal spa hotel, in the mountain town of Geres
  • Dinner in Lisbon on arrival day (traditional cuisine; drinks are not included)
  • On-trip transportation
  • Three meals/day (mostly vegetarian; *Note: on day trips lunch is at your own expense)
  • Daily running or hiking to explore the countryside (3-6 miles/day)
  • All yoga classes
  • Running bio-mechanics analysis (as needed)
  • Race Entry Fee (if you choose to run)

Not Included

  • Airfare and lodging before the trip (Upon request, we can include your airfare from your home town to Lisbon at lowest available rates)
  • Lunches when on day trips
  • Personal expenses for gifts, snacks, tea and coffee, wine, beer, soft drinks, and mineral water
  • Medical expenses in case of any emergency or injury

  • Current Passport (visa to EU if needed)
  • Trail Running shoes for hiking (required)
  • A pair of running shoes (recommended)
  • City Clothing for Lisbon outings

  • Light clothing for hiking (or running) outdoors

  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat for hiking/running (required)
  • Wrist watch (recommended)

Trip Itinerary - This is a tentative schedule!

Day 1 - Arrival/Lisbon Day#1, Saturday, August 12th

  • Meet the rest of the group at the "meetup hotel" in Alfama
  • Walking tour of Alfama/Tram 28
  • Yoga Class at a local yoga studio (tentative)
  • Dinner at a traditional restaurant in Alfama with Fado music  

Day 2 - Lisbon Day#2 and Sintra, Sunday, August 13th

  • 7:15am - Urban Run - Meet Ivo Canelas, our cultural attache; warm up together and explore the best of Lisbon running paths (up to 7 miles) 
  • 9am - Breakfast at the hotel
  • 10am - Checkout
  • 10:30am - Van to Sintra (40 minutes)
  • 11:15am - 2:30pm - Explore Sintra (Lunch separately)
  • 2:30pm - 5:30pm - Travel to Vale de Moses, Yoga Retreat Center in the mountains
  • 6:30pm - Arrive and Dinner 
  • 8pm - Group gathering/Meditation

Days 3, 4, and 5 - Yoga Retreat, Monday-Wednesday, August 14-16

  • 7:15am - optional group run
  • 8:15am - Yoga class
  • 9:30am - Breakfast 
  • 10am - Free time, or short day trips to explore surroundings, in the Serra de Estrela Natural Park 
  • 12:30-1:30pm - Lunch
  • 1:30-5pm - Free time/outdoor activities
  • 5:30pm - Yoga Class
  • 7pm - Dinner
  • Pre-Check Out

Day 6 - Geres Day#1, Thursday, August 17

  • 8am - Yoga
  • 9:30am - Breakfast
  • 10:30am - Checkout and depart to Geres
  • 1pm - Lunch 
  • 2:30pm - 5:30pm - Free time, or guided hike in Geres National Park
  • 6:30pm - Dinner

Day 7 - Geres Day#2, Friday, August 18   

  • 8am - Yoga 
  • 9:30am - Breakfast
  • 10:30am - Free time, guided hikes
  • 1pm - Lunch 
  • 2:30pm - 5:30pm - Free time, guided hikes in Geres National Park
  • 6:30pm - Dinner

Day 8 - Geres/Lisbon transfer, Saturday, August 19

  • 7:30am - Yoga
  • 8:30am - Breakfast and Checkout
  • 10am - Travel back to Lisbon
  • 1:30pm - Lunch
  • 2:30pm - 6pm - Hotel check-in, Free time in Lisbon
  • 6:30pm - Dinner

Day 9 - Departure Day, Sunday, August 20

  • 7:30am - optional group run in Lisbon
  • 9am - Breakfast
  • 10am - Farewells, Airport Transport can be provided
