Running and Yoga Retreat in Cuenca, Ecuador

Of all of the cities in Ecuador, Cuenca is arguably the most charming with its cobblestone streets, old-world cathedrals, colonial parks and urban rivers. The center of the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its many historical buildings. In recent years, Cuenca has become a hot spot for foreigners and retirees settling down to live. Safety, low cost of living, and pleasant climate attract many people to settle down in this small Andean city.

  • Cuenca is located at 8,400 feet above sea level; be prepared to adjust to high altitude with gentle hikes and easy runs
  • Running or hiking in the scenic mountains around Cuenca (1-15 miles per day with rest days)
  • Daily Yoga practice
  • Healthy Ecuadorian food as well as other cuisines (mostly vegetarian)
  • Daily Trips to Cuenca center, nearby towns, natural hot springs, and El Cajas National Park (over 12,000 feet)

Our Hosts

Hacienda Caballo Campana is an inn, located in the hills outside of Cuenca, 15 minutes from the city center. It is a family enterprise that offers 16 years of excellent service.

It is located on 28 acres of land containing forests and gardens surrounding the refurbished antique colonial house. Caballo Campana has 12 country-style rooms, 2 luxury suites, and 4 two-floor cabins.

Hiking, trail running, or horseback riding through the stunning mountains of Cuenca is truly an awe-inspiring and unforgettable experience. The inn provides experienced English speaking guides to safely travel through the Andes while enjoying the peace and tranquility of the forest and rivers.

Some of these hiking trips would be at an altitude of 3,500 meters, or almost 12,000 feet. Trail running will be optional.
